Municipal Leaders Conference (Local Renewables) The
Municipal Leaders Conference was an international community
stakeholder forum to which primarily mayors and /or local
decision-makers from around the world were invited. This high-policy
event focussed on awareness-raising at the community action level
concerning renewable energies and energy efficiency models. The
local and regional levels play an important role in disseminating
renewable energies and promoting energy efficiency. Towns,
municipalities and rural areas in the North and South urgently need
to develop sustainable energy policies. The use of renewable energy
technologies is a win-win strategy for both industrial and
developing countries. In order to make local political
decision-makers heard, to benefit from their experience, and to work
out a local government position towards sustainable energy policies
with specific proposals and self-commitments, the Service Agency
Communities in One World (Servicestelle Kommunen in der Einen Welt
SKEW / InWEnt) in cooperation with Agenda Transfer/National Service
Agency for Local Agenda 21 were organising this conference for
international municipal leaders within the framework of the
International Conference for Renewable Energies 2004.
