Heinrich Boell Foundation Germany and North America:
Approaches to Create Sustainable Energy Markets and to Increase the Share of Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development
Heinrich Bll Foundation, IIEC, and Oeko-Institute,Germany discuss approaches to create sustainable energy markets and to increase the share of renewable energy for sustainable development. Centerpieces of this discussion are the study Transitioning to Renewable Energy: An Analytical Framework for an Enabling Environment by IIEC, and the policy paper Changing Course A Contribution to a Global Energy Strategy by Oeko-Institute. This side event takes a close look at existing policies, programmes and institutions that promote renewable energy in developing countries, and discusses strategies to design successful and sustainable initiatives. It will include cases in Brazil, India, Philippines, South Africa and Thailand. This discussion creates an opportunity for conference delegates, stakeholders, and international organizations to examine current renewable energy approaches, to learn from experiences, and to develop comprehensive strategies for creating an enabling environment to increase the share of renewables in developing countries.
