Large Scale Wind Hydrogen Production in the Argentine Patagonia / The Martn Garca Island Proposal: An Example of Clean Energy Systems for Islands and Other Isolated Locations
Presentation 1:
Large Scale Wind Hydrogen Production in the Argentine Patagonia
The project points out the significant role hydrogen shall play as the fuel in the coming years, and its additional benefits in the GHG Emissions and their impact on Climate Change, allowing the progressive change of the World Energy Matrix with sustainable development.
Within the project, the wind potential and all the resources necessary for hydrogen production in Argentine Patagonia are highlighted.
The Large Scale Hydrogen Production Project is submitted, in order to supply the potential world consumption, detailing necessary investment, wind power, water and other necessary resources and equipment for the project development.
Within this framework, the interest of CAPSA-Capex S.A. (oil and power generating company) in being a key player in this transformation process is mentioned.
This work sets the grounds for the incorporation of actors who share the same strategic vision which will lead to its accomplishment.

Presentation 2:
The Martn Garca Island Proposal, an example of clean energy systems for islands and other isolated locations
The Martin Garca Island is located in the upper River Plate area, close to the mouth of the Uruguay River. The area is 1,7 km2 . Despite having the status of Natural Reserve, with abundance of native vegetal and animal wildlife, its environment has been seriously damaged by diesel generators for supplying electricity to the 200 permanent inhabitants. Having an acceptable wind regime, the alternative of using wind energy was never deeply considered. This is a proposal for establishing there some kind of demonstrative installation of an isolated wind - hydrogen energy system, comprising local electrolytic hydrogen generation (as well as an eventual external supply), pressure storage, and its subsequent utilization in thermal devices, catalytic burners as a first step and later fuel cells for simultaneous cogeneration of heat and power. The proposed system is also applicable for many other islands as well as for isolated systems, both in developed as in developing countries all around the world.
