Renewable Energy Technology Diffusion: The e7 Perspective

The e7 is a non-profit group of leading global electric power companies from the G7 nations, collectively dedicated to promoting energy for sustainable development.

In this side event, senior representatives from the e7 member companies will share the findings from the group's recent assessment of the barriers to and opportunities for improving the diffusion of renewable energy technologies.

In 2002-2003, the e7 convened a multidisciplinary working group of diverse experts to develop and analyse several case studies spanning a range of technologies and geographies.

These instructive examples will be discussed at the event. In the process of this assessment, the e7 identified an important distinction between 'micro' and 'macro' barriers. Categories within each type of barrier class have been delineated, and recommendations on how specific micro and macro barriers can be addressed will be presented and discussed at the side event. These recommendations are intended to guide individual stakeholders in managing local barriers to renewable energy projects, as well as to serve as principles and priorities for international public-private partnership to diffuse renewable energy technologies for sustainable development.
