Ministry of Energy and Mining, Senegal:
Action Plan for the Strategic Reinforcement of Renewable Energies (RE) in Senegal 2004-2014

With regard to the RE potentials of Senegal, the country has conducted a number of projects over the past 20 years with various levels of success and failures. However the impact of RE in Senegal is still short off its potentials. It was recently decided to invite national experts to develop commonly a strategy for the next decade (2004 -2014).
Each sector`s potentials and possible corresponding implementation strategies were investigated. Thus the target percentage of each technology was defined.

In order to achieve these objectives, two action plans were defined:

- A plan for 2004 to 2014 and
- a consolidated plan for 2014 to 2024

Within the reform of the energy sector in 1998 the national utility SENELEC will be privatized, ASER (Agence Sngalaise Electrification Rurale) was installed and the regulation authority CRSE was put in action. Within the reform of the energy sector Renewable Energies play a major role to provide the country side and especially the rural poor with energy. The developed strategies for the rural electrification will be presented.
