16:30 h - 18:00 h
InWEnt Capacity Building International, Germany, in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, KfW Bankengruppe, The World Bank Group:
Enhancing Productivity in Rural Areas - the Role of Renewable Energies

A variety of goods and services can be produced in rural regions if the potential of renewable energies is harnessed. InWEnt trains multi-disciplinary expert groups in performing ongoing market studies to identify those goods and services that can be produced and sold at marketable prices when the energy required comes from renewable energy sources available locally. The multi-disciplinary expert groups coach micro-entrepreneurs in the selection and financing of renewable energy systems suitable for production. They also provide coaching on the production and marketing of the goods and services, and on ways to apply for micro financing. The side event will further present similar approaches being applied by GTZ, the World Bank and NREL. The event will thus contribute to the debate on how renewable energies can contribute to income generation and poverty reduction in rural areas.
