renewables 2004: Steering Committee Starts Work
International Conference for Renewable Energies in Bonn 2004 is in
preparation
6 June, 2003.
The International Conference for Renewable Energies (renewables
2004) will be held in Bonn, Germany, early in June 2004. On
Wednesday and Thursday of next week (11 and 12 June) in Bonn, the
International Steering Committee will meet for the first time to
prepare for the conference. The steering committee is composed of
about 50 representatives from industrialized and developing
countries, international and non-governmental organisations and
civil society groups. They are to give the German government the
benefit of their experience regarding the themes and structure of
the conference. At the same time, they are ambassadors for
renewables 2004. In all, three sessions of the International
Steering Committee are planned.
The International Conference for Renewable Energies was announced by
German Chancellor Gerhard Schrder at the World Summit on
Sustainable Development in September 2002 in Johannesburg. The
conference will give further impetus to the dynamic process
initiated in Johannesburg for the global development of renewable
energy. It will also use the momentum generated by the coalition of
like-minded countries for the promotion of renewable energy, known
as the Johannesburg Renewable Energy Coalition. |
