European Union Energy Initiative (EUEI):
Sustainable Management and Use of Local Energy Resources

The side event will focus on the role of local renewable energy sources, such as e.g. biomass and hydropower, in providing energy for poverty alleviation and development. This includes their potential for providing sustainable and affordable energy services for productive purposes, e.g. in agriculture and small enterprises, for households, e.g. for cooking, and for education, health and water supply. EU and developing country partners will present ongoing and planned EUEI activities and discuss the future role of renewable energies in addressing the energy needs of the poor, and how their potential can be managed and tapped in a sustainable way.
