Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy Cooperation (TREC):
Potential of Economical Reasonable Renewable Energy Sources and their Implementation in the Trans-Mediterranean Region

The first part shows the vast potentials of economical reasonable renewable energy sources.
In the second part it will be shown how the vast and superior wind and solar radiation potentials in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the advanced wind and solar technologies in EU can be combined to serve the large demand for clean power in EU and the growing need for electricity and fresh water in the MENA countries (Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy Cooperation (TREC) Plan). Such a cooperation would generate income and other benefits for MENA countries and deliver energy from renewable sources to Europe at low cost.
In order to realise this perspective, a suitable framework, appropriate political and legal conditions for investors and companies to build and operate solar and wind power stations have to be established.
The proposed TREC plan helps transforming the Mediterranean from a region of various divisions and conflicts into a region of harmonised socio-economic development, cooperation and good neighbourhood.
The side event is jointly organised by: Club of Rome, DPG, GermanWatch and the “Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy Collaboration (TREC)”
