Mediterranean Renewable Energy Initiative (MEDREP)

The side event will present the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme (MEDREP), a Type II Initiative launched at the WSSD in Johannesburg by Italy for the promotion of REs in the Mediterranean Region: its objectives, the work programme, the organisational structure and the tasks of the partners, the activities undertaken, the results obtained, the future projects and activities planned, the official launch in Tunis in September, 2004.
In particular, MEDREC, the centre for training, information dissemination, networking and development of pilot projects in the field of REs, established in Tunis last January, will be presented.
The side event will serve as an opportunity for all the interested parties/beneficiary countries, the private and the financial sector, to be involved in the partnership, being MEDREP a co-operative programme with countries bordering on both the North and the South of the mediterranean region; it will also be an opportunity to create synergies among other initiatives in the field of REs.
