Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP):
Global Village Energy Partnership

We will provide an update on the Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP), its impact to date and planned efforts over the next year. Energy-poverty reduction initiatives by key overseas GVEP partners will be presented followed by exchange and discussion between speakers and attendees.

GVEP seeks to increase access to modern energy services in developing countries, to enhance economic and social development and reduce poverty. Over 300 diverse organizations worldwide have committed to the Partnership. The website, www.gvep.org offers a full listing of partners. Activities include country action planning and implementation, capacity strengthening, financing facilitation, knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation.

GVEP has initiated:
· action plan development and implementation in 18 countries;
· programs linked to the delivery of energy services to more than 20 million people;
· training programs for entrepreneurs and finance organisations;
· risk mitigation facility to leverage local financial capital markets;
· shifting funding from electrification to broader energy-poverty and energy service delivery issues in at least 10 countries.
