Accreditation / Registration
The conference accreditation procedure (
www.renewables2004.de/en/press/accreditation.asp) for national and
international media representatives has closed on
14 May 2004.
Journalists need a valid press card and national ID card/passport,
which they must present on collecting their conference papers and
badges. Please note that journalists in possession of annual
accreditation also need separate accreditation for the conference.
Starting on 30 May, a separate
Registration Counter for Media
will be set up in the foyer of the conference building where
journalists can collect their conference papers and badges. This
counter will be staffed from 11:00 to 15:00 on 30 and 31 May. Media
representatives are urgently advised to collect their documents on
these two days if possible, to avoid long waiting times when the
conference starts. The counter will open at 7.00 on 1 June. Please
note that you may have to wait.
Media Centre
Some
50 workplaces for media representatives will be set up
on the ground floor at Plenary Hall level in the International
Congress Centre (Internationales Kongresszentrum Bundeshaus Bonn,
IKBB). This Press Centre will be open on all four conference days as
of 1 June and is equipped with a limited number of PC workplaces
with Email and Internet access, and access to a photocopier, fax
machine and telephone. These workplaces cannot be reserved in
advance, but are available free of charge on a strictly dirst-come,
first-served basis. Journalists are recommended to bring their own
laptop.
The regional broadcasting station Westdeutscher Rundfunk Cologne (WDR)
is running a
Radio Centre, which will provide workplaces for
fellow radio journalists. Radio representatives are requested to
contact WDR as host broadcaster for further information and
bookings:
[email protected];
tel. +49 (0)221 2203298, mobile +49 (0)172 253 8424.
Deutsche Welle offers studio space that is not occupied by its own
editorial teams to radio journalists free of charge. The scheme is
coordinated by Jrgen Layer at WDR.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) manages the TV centre
where cutting desks are also available for use by TV journalists.
For more information and to make a booking, please contact Earny
Thiemann:
[email protected], tel.: +49 - 28 - 9267441.
TV journalists can record interviews in the TV Lounge on the
entrance floor, an open gallery with a view of the Plenary Hall and
the Rhine river.
Attendance at sessions
According to the current planning status, media representatives will
be able to attend all plenary sessions. There is a separate Media
Gallery with seating for about 90 in the Plenary Hall. It is
possible to record the international soundmixing with an XLR male
adapter, which you should also bring along yourself. Access to the
Media Gallery will be regulated via badges. The conference convener
reserves the right to "pool" if the number of interested journalists
exceeds the number of seats available. Journalists will be informed
of this separately.
The conference languages are English, French, Spanish and
German. Interpreting services from and into all languages will be
provided in all plenary sessions. Only participants accredited as delegates from countries,
UN and other international organisations and other interest groups
will be entitled to speak. Session papers will be provided chiefly
in English.
At the beginning of each session, it is expected that camera crews
will be allowed into the Plenary Hall for about five minutes to
record pictures. Access will be via a separate media entrance;
badges must be shown.
Enquiries concerning access rules to side events and other related
events at the conference (for example the International
Parliamentary Forum) should be directed to the respective organisers.
Press events
Press conferences ans
photo shootings will be held on all four days of renewables 2004,
organised by the conveners or other organisations and institutions.
The rooms for these press conferences (Rooms A-C) are located next
to the media centre. The Daily Programme handed out to all
journalists by the Press Desk provides details of the themes and
times of the various press conferences.
An interpreter's cabin will be set up. The organisers of the
respective press conferences will decide whether and into which
languages interpreting services will be provided and will arrange
these services themselves.
Accommodation / Travel
Journalists are responsible for making their own travel and
hotel arrangements at their own cost. Assistance in finding hotel
accomodation is provided via T&C Tourismus und Congress GmbH:
http://www.tcbonn.de/con/html/3131-5.html.
Information material
Media representatives will be issued with a conference folder
containing topical information and the conference programme
(English/German) at the start of the conference. Further documents
of the day will be available at the Press Desk, which will be
permanently staffed on all four conference days, serving as a
central port of call for journalists. Here, information on the
latest developments will be available, and interview requests will
be registered and forwarded.
A Daily Programme will contain details of all sessions and
events scheduled for that day, as well as of press conferences being
held within the framework of renewables 2004. Side events at the
conference organised by other participants will also be mentioned.
In addition, a centrally located Infoscreen will also provide
information about the programme and any current changes. Press
releases (in English and German) will be e-mailed to all
accredited journalists.
From Day 2 of the conference onwards, the
International Institute
for Sustainable Development (IISD) will provide an independent
review of the day about the official conference sessions and
other important events on behalf of the conference conveners. It
will be issued as a hard copy (in English) to all conference
participants, including the media representatives. A website
set up specially for the conference by IISD will also contain photos
and the key speeches of the day.
The two ministries convening the conference: German Federal Ministry
for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and German Federal
Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety
(BMU), have specific web pages with information on renewable
energies:
http://www.bmz.de/en/topics/Handlungsfelder/energie/ and
www.erneuerbare-energien.de (in German).
Please contact Sibylle Tepper, BMZ Press Office
[email protected], and
Kerstin Brandau, BMU Press Office
[email protected] for more details.
